The Chemical Balance Diet: The Diet Plan I Have Been on for the Last 4 Weeks

I have had several people ask my what diet I am on. No there are no chemicals or pills or supplements to take, it's mostly really low calorie foods. So, what I thought I would do is post it on here for those of you wanting to know more about it, can have access to it. It's pretty easy to follow. For you cocktail and wine and beer folks, you are going to have to give it up for a month. I stuck to the plan as close to it as possible (though I didn't do the salad thing quite right after reading this again) and for the one night I went out and had a martini. So here it is. Let me know if you have any questions.

CHEMICAL BALANCE DIET
Diet Instructions
  1. With this diet you will lose about 11 pounds a week (8 kilos). Heavier people will lose more (close to 2 pounds a day). If you don't lose this much weight, you are either eating foods not listed in the diet or you are making mistakes following the diet's instructions.

Percy's comments: I followed this by the book (well almost). The first week I lost 12+ pounds; week 2 I lost just over 4 pounds; and Week 3 I lost just over 3 pounds. I came nowhere close to 2 pounds a day except for the first week, but I am not complaining. Maybe the chicken choices I made were not the correct choices, so maybe baking or broiling is the better route as I grilled some and also bought rotisserie chicken and chicken slices from the deli. Also after reading this I didn't do the salad exactly like they suggested. So maybe I did some things wrong, but again I ain't complaining about the weight I dropped.

  2. During the diet period you are not allowed to eat any food that is not listed or drink anything except for water, and the coffee and orange juice for breakfast because this will ruin the chemical balance that causes weight loss.

  3. The first weeks allow for unlimited quantities, for example, on day you eat chicken you can eat the whole chicken for lunch and another for dinner, anytime you feel hungry during the day, you can eat chicken. This also applies for days you eat beef and fish.

  4. On the day marked Yogurt Day you are only allowed to eat yogurt all day, the quantity is unlimited.

  5. Drink up to 10 glasses of water a day.

  6. The food can be prepared with spices, such as, salt, pepper, oregano, parsley, garlic, etc. Spices are your friend in this diet plan.

  7. NO ONIONS can be used on this diet at all.

  8. It is very important to eat the correct combination's' of food as listed, for example: Chicken is to be eaten only with tomatoes, beef only with spinach, and fish with lettuce. If we change the salad that accompany the meals, this will ruin the chemical balance and weight loss will not be achieved.

THIS IS THE END OF THE CHEMICAL BALANCE DIET!
CONGRATULATIONS YOU MADE IT!!

Good luck to all of you trying it out. Even though I didn't loose the 2 lbs a day that this diet suggested, I am still very thrilled with the outcome! Who knows maybe I'll do it for another month.

  1. Thank you for posting this Percy. I'm in week two and lost a total of 6lbs. I agree the weight loss isn't dramatic BUT it is loss. I feel good and cant wait to see/feel the loss at the end of 4 wks. (Lisa)

  2. Percy, I am inspired by you! A friend of mine & I have been researching diets and she was told about this diet by a another friend who was very successful. I searched for it online and found your blog with the exact same diet instructions as well as your success. This is our Day 1 on the diet and are very excited to see results. I've gained 50 pounds in a little over a year because of depression and the use of anti-depressants...which I needed and feel great. Am off anti-depressants now & ready to get my body back to normal now too. I weigh 226.2 as of this morning and will be VERY happy to reach 199 if I can! Wish us luck, Perry!

  3. Just finished the diet and lost a total of about 18 lbs. Pretty good for starting at 167. The diet was easy to follow and I was inspired by my brother (Percy)...so...I had to do it! This kick started my fitness bug and has motivated me to get back into shape. The diet is relatively easy to follow...four weeks and you're done! Then the struggle to maintain the weight, make healthy meal choices and sustain the new lifestyle come into play. This low/no carb diet is very easy to follow and IT WORKS! Good luck (and good riddance to the excess weight) if you decide to embark on the short journey!

  4. Hi Percy. You look GREAT! I want to try to do this diet as well. I need help because I have a lot of questions... I assume crackers and rye crisps are restricted, but it doesn't say how many. Also the green salad items say tomato, which is the "chicken day" side item; can I use it also in the salad? If yes, how much tomato? we only get one the first three days. Is there a limit to the amount of greens or the corn? Please let me know if there are any resources or books about this plan that I can browse. Thank you in advance. Nancy

    ReplyDelete
  5. Nancy no limits on the Rye Crisps or crackers. I would probably stay within the calorie count on the box. I ate Kashi's asiago cheese crackers and tried to stay to 15 crackers. As far as tomoatos, not limit on the salad, but one is probably sufficient. No limits to the amount of greens or corn either. No books and resources unfortunately. Good luck...let me know your progress.

  6. I got this diet from someone and tried to research it online. I found your site which is the exact same diet. I am on week 3 and have lost 16 pounds. My problem is this - I have had an upset stomach and irritable bowel symptoms and getting worse. I know this is gross but just wondering if this is normal?

    ReplyDelete
  7. not sure if it's normal. I actually was pretty constipated from week 2 on, but never had the upset stomach or irritable bowel.

  8. I just started this new way of eating today.. YAH! 2 questions....Can I leave the skin on the chicken..and the Olive oil and lemon combo..is it a certain amount I'm to use??

    ReplyDelete
  9. I just started the diet and am on day 4 and have lost already four pounds!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hi Percy.. I was wondering if I could put lemon in my water??? And also if you have a diet plan on how to maintain the weight after the 4 weeks are up. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  11. Congrats on starting and the fabulous weight loss! As far as water, not sure if you could put lemon in it or not. Don't think it would hurt as long as you are drinking the 10 glasses a day. The Olive Oil and Lemon combo there is no certain amount and I ate the chicken with the skin.

  13. Hello Percy,
I was wondering for the yogurt day can I eat the one with fruit in the bottom or should it be plain yogurt?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi Miss Dawn, I actually ate the Yoplait low fat yogurts that were flavored. I also went to Yo Yum Yum and Pink Berry and ate with no toppings. Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi Percy,

Question. When it says no sugar, Can we add splenda?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm not sure how it would or would not affect it...but I did no sugar or sugar substitute at all...just to be on the safe side. I know it might be grosss...but in the beginning to get my coffee to be a little sweet...I actually put some of my orange juice in it. Also iced coffee worked better for me because the ice watered down the taste. Hope that helps.

  17. Hello Percy,

Do you think sugar free gum would affect in this diet?
I have already lost 9 pounds in 11 days

    Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't think it will hurt anything, but than again, I stuck to the plan as written because I was scared it would screw something up in the balance. But I don't think sugar free gum even has calories in it.

Anyway so happy about your 9 pound loss! That is awesome! Let me know how I can be of support! Where are you writing from?

  19. Hi thanks for the quick replies and for having this site available to others. I'm from Chile but living in Washington DC.

  21. Hi Percy I just started two days ago ,and I wanted to ask if we can drink diet pepsi or herbal tea. Also do we have to eat the three meals, somtimes i like to skip dinner.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Definitely no on Diet Pepsi. As far as the herbal tea I am not sure...but as long as you are not adding sugar or cream to it I am not sure it would really affect anything. I stayed to how it was written because I was scared I would not get results. Eat the plan as written. Your meal at lunch and than one at dinner. Don't skip dinner...rather eat your dinner meal around 4 instead.

  23. Hello Percy,

I am getting married in 2 months and want to drop some extra weight before the honeymoon and any amount would be great! I found your blog by Google searching this diet by name when I heard about it from a friend, but your blog is the only place I can find it published under this title online... Could you send me the original source or tell me if there are any substitutions for hard boiled eggs and feta cheese? Those are the only 2 items I can't stand to eat, so just wondering if you know of any substitutions for those 2 items. Thank you so much for your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Katie,

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding! I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

As far as the CBD I actually got the plan from a friend who got it from a friend and it was only a "photocopy" of the original diet. So I do not know where it has originated and I can't find where it all originated.

I am thinking for the salad days I think you just need to substitute the egg and the feta cheese for other proteins. But I am not sure. You may want to scramble an egg in olive oil as a sub for the hardboiled egg,if you don't like eggs, maybe sub it with turkey, For the cheese another crumbly cheese to replace the feta, such as goat cheese or maybe blue cheese. I am sorry I could not offer any more sound advice.

    Good luck!

  25. Hi Percy, I'm writing you all the way from Gary, IN. I heard about this diet from a friend of a friend and at first, I was skeptical because she lost a total of 50pds throughout the whole diet. I was tryna figure out how a person can loose up to two pounds a day, staying healthy, and not using some type of pill. Well, I gotta say, THIS IS THE DIET!!! I started this diet a week and a half ago and after the first 7days I had lost 15pds!!! WOOOOW!!!! I didn't think it was possible...at least not for me, the one who has tried ever diet out there. And honestly I don't look at it as a diet, it's a lifestyle change. To me, diet says "Starvation" and this plan does not do that at all. Thank you Percy for posting this diet. Also, do you have any tips or encouraging words for me as I complete this journey because I am half way through my second week and I havn't lost anything since the 15pds in the first week. Did that happen to you? Is that the norm?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi and congratulations on your achievements so far Gary, IN! This is definitely not a diet...I agree wholeheartedly that it is a change of lifestyle. You start to realize that the things that you thought you couldn't live without was actually the easiest things to change about your diet. For me it was getting rid of the soda and to date I have not drank sodas...I have completely replaced it with water and now unsweetened green tea.

Your 15lbs weight loss is HUGE achievement! You should be so proud of yourself. During the 2nd and 3rd weeks I lost the least amount of weight...but you should still lose 2-3 lbs. What you should start doing is walking 30 minutes a day just to get some exercise into the mix. YOU ARE DOING SO MUCH FOR YOURSELF and you should keep that momentum going. Remember...don't always look at the numbers! Also feel how you are feeling about yourself and what great changes you are making up in your life. So keep on keeping on and you will achieve your goals! Let me know how else I can support you! Good luck and you are doing AWESOME!

  27. Wow, cant wait to start this diet. I just heard about it for the first tie from a lady i was talking to in the gymn tonight.

  28. Hi Percy,

Firstly Im in scotland so way to go you for an international blog!!!!!!

I am on day 3 and totally crumbled yesterday but I'm back on track today so far...it's only 14:30 here. You say that this is not a diet but more of a lifestyle change. Is there a safe and unsafe amount of time to eat like this? Also did you take vitamins alongside this diet? i'm worried it'll throw the balance out. I currently take 2 tabs of akai a day.

I am a bit disappointed that i failed yesterday as my inspiration is to be healthy for my children. Any tips on spicing up the food and how to deal with cravings?

    Thanks,
    Nell

  29. This is Gary, IN again. I actually started working out at curves a week before I started this diet. I exercise for 30minutes 3-4 days a week. It's gonna be something to see the change in weight & measurements at the end of the month at curves. My husband jumped on board & has come up with a workout plan to help me tone up. I've never been a small dress size in my adult age so this will be new to me. But I am ready and thankful to have support & encouragement during this journey. Thanx again!!! Thourghout your past year of weight loss, how often did u go back & do the diet again or did u just change ur eating habits?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Scotland,

Congrats on trying this thing. I have to tell you it has been a life changer for me. I only did this for 4-weeks. But at the end of the four weeks you should be able to gauge your intake and also manage your meals better. Basically it teaches you that you don't need all the carbs and crap that we are so use to eating. That eating protein with veggies is a healthier way of eating in life. I did take multi-vitamins, just to make sure that I has getting all my nutrients.

Don't beat yourself up for not making the mark 100%. I was definitely not 100% on the diet either...but I made sure to get back on track. You can add any spices you want to your chicken and beef...since spices do not add calories or have sugar they are okay. I did curry chicken one night with diced tomatoes and stuff like that. For cravings I ate more chicken or beef as needed...but also found that drinking water gets those cravings away also.

    Hope the helps Nell!

Let me know how to support you from here! GO SCOTLAND!

    Percy

  31. Hi again Gary IN!

Great job on adding exercise to you mix. It will make a world of difference. Plus adding muscle helps in your metabolism and what my trainer said is that muscle may weigh more than fat...but it eats up the fat too! So remember that. I think support from your husband is also huge. I could have not made it through this journey with out the support of my lovely husband, son and my family and friends. During the whole cycle I did the CBD in full once. I tried to go back again and try it another time...but could not get pass week two. I just basically am watching what I am eating. I can gauge when I have not eaten wisely and when I have eaten perfectly. You will know too by listening to how your body feels. I've learned that I should never fell like a stuffed turkey again! Remember to drink your water! I drink a lot...almost a gallon a day but according to my trainer for the amount of calories I burn and the amount I work out that is the right amount. Here's a good guide to tell you how much water intake you should be doing daily. http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm and this link is also helpful http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/water/NU00283

Goodluck Gary IN and remember it's only 4weeks!

  36. So if i am reading this correctly, the only things you can eat all you want is the Chicken, Fish and Beef. YOu cant eat all the tomatoes and spinich and eggs on those days correct.

thanks, Day 1 and lets see how it goes!

    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi Scott, Correct you can eat as much of the protein you want but not the veggies. If it says one than that's all you get. Good luck!

I was wondering how I would do this diet because I don't eat beef or pork. Would you still sub tofu or something else? I want to start because I have seen so many people with tremendous success & I need to lose a total of about 70 lbs, and have been unsuccessful with everything else.

    Thanks!

  54. Hi Percy I've been on this diet for 3wks now along with my Husband. I've lost 24 lbs.and so has he...We were amazed after the 1st week . My question is how long should you stay off this diet before trying it again?

    ReplyDelete
  55. OMG I am so excited for you and your husband! This diet truly works and at least for me a life saver! After the four weeks I would go into a regular eating pattern, taking cues from the meals you ate. Definitely try to keep the bad carb intake down. Introduce work outs in your daily routine will help with continued weight loss. If you want to go on it again, I would suggest waiting 6 months.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hi. This isn't the same as The Chemical diet doing the rounds right? The Dr. Humdy one? Have you tried that one? Which one would you prefer and why? A pity yours doesn't allow diet sodas. So what did you drink when you wanted a drink??

    ReplyDelete
  57. no not the same diet, have not tried the Humdy version, I basically cut out alcoholic drinks and soda for 4-weeks...which I needed to cut out anyway. I learned to enjoy water and black coffee which I still do today. Prior to this diet. I drank diet soda like it was water - now I only drink it on very rare occasions. Alcoholic drinks on the other hand I still enjoy but limit myself too.

I'm wondering, on week one, day seven, it says 1 apple and yogurt, it that 1 little cup of yogurt, or unlimited? I'm going to start on Monday, and I'm really looking forward to it, I have a LOT of weight to lose.

Hey Percy..first of all allow me to say u look GREAT....i really want to start this diet plan and would love to loose 40 pounds for myself...my birthday is coming up soon and im taking this as a birthday present and also would love to inspire my sister but i have some concerns and so please help if u can.... i weigh about 217 pounds and i have been on diet for 2 months were i lost my first 12 pounds so thats great and my doctor says its good to loose weight slowly not to bring them back again....i heard so much of this diet and i really want to try it but im afraid of loose skin if i loose weight fast... but keeping in mind i always workout....stuff like zumba dance and walking and jillians michels 30 day shred and other stuff so im always working out...so my question is did u or anyone who did this suffer from loose skin??? please help i really want to start this soon

    Thank youu

    ReplyDelete
  65. I did not have any loose skin challenges with this diet but not sure other people had the same results. I worked out so it help to tighten my skin up too.

As far as drinking tea or perrier I would probably stick to water if you can. I think the salt in the fizz may affect it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. When I started the diet I was closer to 250 than what I originally thought that I was. I went down to 190-195 (this diet plus working out, bootcamp etc). I gained part of the weight back but have maintained between 205-210. Maintenance is the hardest thing but if you work out or at least do 30 minutes of exercise it sure does help.

  79. Oh yeah, I forgot to post my weight loss. Started as fat guy at 378lbs and now on week 3 day 4, I'm now past 348lbs & counting. That's roughly 10lbs a week with little to no time to exercise... I'm imagining how much I'd lose if I were also going to the gym. I'm a full time student 18 units, unpaid intern and part-time on campus work, so no time to go to the gym.

  86. I'm in the military and needed to drop some pounds quick to make weight. i was given this diet by one of my co-workers and i must say i was optimistic at first. In the first full 24hrs on the diet i lost 6lbs which inspired me to really challenge me even more. After 2 weeks on the diet i had lost 16lbs. at the end of the diet i lost a total of 34lbs. To be honest i cheated a little on the diet but nothing crazy. I mixed raw almonds in on the all yogurt days to give it my own spin.
I just started the diet again on Monday and I'll post again after my 30 days are up.

  113. Can you not have the coffee every morning? I actually I don't want to have it. Also is that breakfast enough for you until you have lunch? Like are you starving? I would be having only some orange juice for breakfast and that's it.

  114. Hi Percy, I'm on day 2 of meal plan and trying to adjust since I'm a server and work in a restaurant that have tons of foods that I can't eat. I found out quickly that it is very important to pace meals, because I was super hungry on first day, due to the fact that I did lunch about 8ish and lunch about 3, because I was at work and couldn't break. I already made a couple of mistakes by putting lemon juice on my tomatoes and drank Perrier water. I should have read the entire blog and comments before starting. I was too excited! Also, can I drank unlimited amounts of coffee as well and use any sort of sauces for the meats. I noticed you stated that you made curry chicken (great ideal), I was under the impression and literally took that the meat are only to be baked, boiled or broiled with basic seasonings. I thought that maybe certain seasonings like curry would affect weight loss.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Hi Percy, how did you make your curry chicken since coconut milk, oil, onions, etc is not allowed?

    1. The term curry I use loosely. You can add any spices you want as long as it does not add calories. I baked the chicken with curry powder and masala seasoning

I just started this diet today (well I started it a week ago but kept repeating day one after giving in to temptation every time, but this time I've come back with a warrior's will!). So I wanted to ask you about the way you prepared the chicken and beef and if you could share some recipes. I broiled some chicken breasts with seasoning today but I would really like to switch it up. Please and thank you!

  133. Hey Percy! This diet has been a blessing!! Started last week and have lost 12 pounds. I am starting the part where you have to eat feta and cottage cheese but the problem is I have been dairy free for three years. I eat fairy free yogurt and almond milk so I am ok there. I know cottage cheese and feta are high in protein but low cal. Should i just not worry about them or try to replace them? And with what? I had thought about soaking chia seeds in almond milk to make a pudding. Any ideas?! Thank you!

  134. Hi Taylor,

Congrats on the weight loss! I think you should just do what you can with the cheese. Maybe you should do a low sugar protein shake like Premier Protein from Costco. Add some multi-vitamins to your daily routine. I found that at the end of week 4 my hair was dry and brittle because I lacked some nutrients and vitamins. So just add the vitamins. I did the chewable ones from Costco.

Good luck and keep going on!
